computer games.. What next??

March 27th, 2010

Heavy Rain…

G’day , I love tech, did I ever tell you that???

I love computer games, they take you to new places you couldn’t do in real life, its just amazing. from racing cars to playing basketball to hurtling across space or watching an entire family live there lives from birth to death

Of course computer games have been around for years,  back in the  early 1940’s  cathode ray tube-based missile defence systems to more simple games in the 1950’s  and slowly from the 1960’s computer games became more popular in the every day person .

From then there became different platforms : arcade, mainframe, console, personal computer and later handheld games. Now we have Pc games, xbox 360, ps3 , psp, Nintendo Wii etc

The games of course have really come along way, from the days of just back n forth tennis, with just two bars and a dot for a ball, to now actually playing a character  who actually looks like ROGER FEDERER.

And now games like Heavy Rain, where you control the lives of many characters through out the game, like a mini tv movies  and we also now have games like Star Trek Online,or MAG  where you play against or with hundreds of people from all over the world at any time.

The sports games too have evolved from WWE Smackdown VS Raw series (wrestling) Cricket , NBA Basket ball and various driving games that make youi actually feel like your in the car!

so whats next for pc and console games? who knows, but I cant wait!!

Gps units… fun times when your lost..

March 7th, 2010

hmmm, I love tech, as you probably know by now.

I had my tomtom GO 500 for a few years now, and now have the tom tom iphone app, one of the most expensive apps at arount $99 australian.

But I felt that some times you dont want to always take your gps or leave them in the car, especially

when there are so many cars broken into because of people leaving them in the car,so this is great. It works just like your normal tom tom, but you can  still have your music playing in the back ground.

You can have the volume slider thing set for just voice or music, or you can even disable the voice and have music going.

So far its worked pretty much like my stand alone tom tom unit, it has heaps of voices to choose from , although i dont know how you can get new ones, maybe some one has an idea??

My only grip with gps units is the maps.. there only as good as there last update,

I got  the iphone app around the end of the year, November and found that a couple of new extensions on a high way in my area were not on the map,

just dotted lines , and some how I ended off the highway and on some back road.. How I got there I’ll never know.

Thats when it gets frustrating with tech stuff, but like I said, its only as  good as the last update.. But mostly I think the iphone app is as good as any other gps ,only thing I wish apple could do is make the iphone a duel screen or split screen , so you can change your songs etc  . But overall its pretty good.

I think it will improve over time..

The decade of Tech

January 9th, 2010

Wow !! How things have changed over the last ten or so years?

I can remember HD tv’s being in the $5-10k price tag,now there down to the $1k ish range. Also from people sending faxes ,now sending emails ,text etc to virtually any where in the world.

Also skype , being able to chat pc to pc, with video and audio , to relies and loved ones any where.. From being tied to a land line  for the internet, now having usb dongles that you can go any where in the world and surf the net.. Totally amazing, Also digital cameras’s and video cameras, and the mobile phones, how they’ve come down in size…

but my favorite is the “Apple Iphone” ,its really blown me  away.not only being able to watch tv shows, movies, listen to your music etc but also to do video on it too.

I have the 3G model, not the 3Gs , it has the camera but no video , but while watching stuff on ustream.com i found an app that  I downloaded (free) Ustream broadcaster, and i just uploaded a short video, live from my iphone, with no video camera, just the standard one built in. How amazing is that? while it is 1 am in the morning, tomorrow I’ll have a play with it some more. You can stream audio/video straight from the phone to your  ustream site and even share to facebook etc, that i haven’t tried yet…

check this out..  I need to work out how to sit the iPhone

I know theres so much tech stuff I haven’t even covered , who knows what the next decade will bring in Tech… I love being a nerd, geek, what ever you want to call me, but I am usually the one to come and fix things for you…. just kidding….

Love hate relationship with Telstra

November 13th, 2009

G’day, Milo here

I know theres a lot of people who complain about Telstra, sometimes me included but sometimes its like the old saying , or at least my mum used to say, better the devil you know than the one you dont.

I have been doing a lot of travelling , mostly across to South Australia, to visit the Relies a couple times this year and wanted to take the net with my on my new laptop I got earlier this year..

I looked at various plans that some had , mostly with 1 or 2 gigs of data allowance per month, pretty dismal.

In the UK, as I was over there last year, they have unlimited plans on USB modems.

So I looked at Telstra, as heading  out west most of the time I know they have the most coverage on mobile phones and knew from my experiance with my Optus iphone I’d be better off.

So I found there plan ,10gigs pm @ $69 pm which I thought was resonable , so I got the deal.

So going on the road I found the connection to be pretty good. No drop outs, although  at a couple of places was almost dial up speeds, but while on the road you have to get used to it.

When I stayed at Kimba in South Australia,  I found the Telstra usb modem to work and my Optus phone had no coverage so I cant complain.

So if you do an extensive amount of travelling it may be an option, considering that some places do have wifi but you have to pay as you go. I did that in the UK and didn’t  like doing that.

So have a look around and have a look at Telstra…
